Finalist of the UK Songwriting Contest 2017 and 2018, and Semi-Finalist of the International Songwriting Competition, The Kut, is the alter-ego of multi-instrumentalist solo-artist and recent PhD Graduate, Princess Maha.
Live, The Kut is a trio featuring Diana Bartmann (drums) and Stella Vie (bass) amongst a regular crew. The debut album ‘Valley of Thorns’ was signed by Cargo Records worldwide in 2018. Produced by James LeRock Loughrey (Skindred / Def Leppard /White Zombie / My Vitriol), its launch was fan-funded via PledgeMusic, hitting 300% of target. The album spent two weeks in the UK Rock Albums Chart, reaching No.7 and charting in 6 other UK album charts. Supporting UK DJs include Kerrang! Radio’s Johnny Doom, Sean McGinty at BBC Introducing, Wyatt Wendels at Planet Rock, Tony Wilson at Total Rock, Hard Rock Hell, as well as Def Leppard front-man Joe Elliott. The album has achieved airplay on 100+ stations worldwide and in 12 US states on AAA, Specialist and College Radio, leading to numerous NACC Rock Chart adds. Supporters in the North America include US-act-breaking DJ Rodney Bingenheimer, while TV support includes MTV-U USA, AXS TV & Retail Outlets.
Extensive tours comprise of successful headliners across the UK, and in Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and Czech Republic. Festivals in 2018 included Camden Rocks, Download Festival, Rebellion Festival, Amplified, Wilkestock, Croydon Rocks & BBC Introducing Stages among many more.
